Article: Commander Eric Tung

Commander Eric Tung

Commander Eric Tung has been a police officer for 17 years in Washington State. He currently oversees patrol operations and his department’s wellness and peer support programs. As a sergeant, he led and oversaw units in recruiting, hiring, training, community engagement, civil disturbance and field training programs. As an officer, he cut his teeth in Patrol, working as an FTO, K9 generalist handler, and the civil disturbance unit.

Eric's drive for improving officer wellness and team dynamics comes from his own challenges and experiences from critical incidents, close calls, and losing his friend in the line of duty. He began sharing physical and mental health perspectives and resources on @bluegritwellness on Instagram and bluegritwellness.com . The efforts there grew into frequent discussions and resources aligned with his professional assignments- to include recruiting, leadership and organizational development. He is the founder and host of the Blue Grit Radio podcast, focused with the goal of building better cops, agencies, and the policing profession through interviews, insights, and critical discussions.
